Ironman for Kidz
Khayalethu is privileged in having our younger boys take part in the annual Pritt IronKids aquathlon which will took place on Saturday, 24 April 2010.
The Ironman is held in 21 countries worldwide and is seen as the ultimate test of fitness and endurance. The Pritt IronKids goes hand in hand with the Ironman and is a wonderful way for the younger set to showcase there talents in a non-competitive way.
Physical wellbeing is also one of the key educational themes being addressed in schools as well as ACVV Khayalethu Youth Centre.
Bearing the background of the traditional street child in mind, where they are confronted and actively involved with all kinds of illegal substance abuse, and even legal substances, such as petrol and glue, find a way to being abused by boys with this kind of back ground.
Sport as a whole, and specifically the Pritt Ironkidz, being one of the biggest Aquathlons’ in the world, not only exposes our boys the other, more privileged childrent, but shows them the potential that they can aspire to be a true achiever on a holistic, academic and social level
The Pritt IronKids promises to be challenging but a whole heap of fun. Kids will be classified according to their age group and will participate in a Run (from 1.2km – 2km depending on the age group) as well as a Swim (60m - 100m). All participating kids will receive an exclusive Pritt IronKids t-shirt and swimming cap and all of those who complete the event will be awarded with a medal and certificate.
The big benefit offered to the kids through Pritt’s sponsorship is that a portion of the entry fee of R150 goes directly to the Ironman 4 the Kidz Charity, (of which ACVV Khayalethu Youth Centre is a beneficiary) - thereby allowing children to help other children who are not as fortunate as them to have a better life.
The IronKids events which take place annually in countries such as France, Austria and the USA usually attract a field of about 300 entries per event, but we know that South African kids are active and enthusiastic and the SA numbers have grown each year. In 2009 we anticipate a field of at least 1000 kids eager to prove that they can earn the honour of being an IronKid!
