Developmental Assessments

When a child arrives at Khayalethu or Khayalethu Oliver House, he is evaluated and assessed in terms of emotional and intellectual and physical health and wellness. An I.D.P (Individual Development Program/ Plan) is set up for each individual child.

This plan focuses on the positive aspects of the child on the following levels:
1) Belonging
2) Mastering
3) Generosity
4) Independence

Group Work

Group work is used as a Social Development technique in Khayalethu Youth Centre and Khayalethu Oliver House. Regular group discussions are held on various topics such as: Crime, Social Interaction and Etiquette, Future Dreams & Development, HIV/Aids, Contraception, Career Development, Sport, Socially accepted norms in our community rather than what’s accepted on the street etc.

Every Monday Night, we have a house meeting with the students at Khayalethu Oliver House. During this time, we discuss issues such as house rules and responsibilities, work, etiquette (socially, in the home environment as well as life in general). Future dreams and how to realize those dreams, budgeting, saving etc.  also form part of the group work. The aim is to further assist the students to become more self sufficient and responsible as they prepare for adulthood and eventually family and fatherhood.
